Early life and background

Hanuman Beniwal was born on 2 March 1972 in Barangaon village in Nagaur district, Rajasthan. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1993 and an LLB in 1998 from Rajasthan University. During his college years he was active in student leadership, serving as president of Rajasthan College and Rajasthan Law College in the mid-1990s and later as president of Rajasthan University.

Beniwal comes from a political family. His father, Ram Dev Beniwal, served as a three-time MLA from the Mundwa constituency in Nagaur. Hanuman Beniwal is married to Kanika Beniwal; the couple have two children, a son named Ashutosh and a daughter named Diya. His brother Narayana Beniwal is also involved in politics.

Career

Beniwal entered public life through student politics in the 1990s and transitioned to electoral politics in the 2000s. He first contested an assembly seat in 2003 as an independent candidate from Mundwa. In 2008 he won the Khinvsar assembly seat on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket and served in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly through multiple terms between 2008 and 2019.

After a period of suspension from the BJP in 2011 related to his public accusations of corruption against some party leaders, Beniwal continued his independent political activity. He organised several large farmers’ rallies across Rajasthan and, contesting as an independent in 2013, retained electoral support by winning his constituency again.

In October 2018 he launched his own political formation, the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP), adopting the bottle as the party symbol. Standing for RLP, he won the Khinvsar MLA seat in 2018 by a substantial margin. In 2019, after RLP allied with the BJP in Rajasthan, Beniwal was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha from the Nagaur parliamentary constituency. In 2024 he again won the Nagaur Lok Sabha seat representing the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party.

Beniwal has also taken notable stands in Parliament and public life. In 2020 he resigned from three parliamentary committees in solidarity with farmers protesting new agricultural laws. Earlier episodes in his career include public allegations against political opponents and episodes of protest both inside and outside legislative bodies.
