Early life and background

Harikrishnan S., sometimes credited as Hari Krishnan or simply Hari, was born in Vaikom, Kerala, and grew up in a Malayali family. He completed his schooling at Sathragraha Memorial Srinarayana Higher Secondary School in Vaikom and went on to earn a BA in English from Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. He also studied at Vineeth’s School of Media Studies. His hometown is listed as Kochi. Harikrishnan follows Hinduism and counts reading among his hobbies.

Career

Harikrishnan entered the public eye through television, appearing as a contestant on the Asianet talent show Screen Test in 2007. He made his film debut in 2010 with Malarvaadi Arts Club, playing the character Praveen. The film performed well at the box office and helped launch his career in Mollywood.

Across the 2010s he built a steady body of supporting and character roles. Small parts followed early on, including a brief appearance in Doctor Love (2011). He gained wider recognition for his portrayal of Richard in the 2012 film Chattakkari, and later appeared as Yardley in Ohm Shanthi Oshaana (2012). In 2014 he played Aadhi in Monayi Angane Aanayi and Johny in Kurutham Kettavan. He portrayed Lolan in Aadu – Oru Bheegara Jeevi Aanu (2015) and returned for Aadu 2 in 2017. Harikrishnan has worked across formats beyond feature films. In 2018 he joined the cast of the television serial Ilayaval Gayathri, playing the role of Nandan. He served as a mentor on the reality show Dance Kerala Dance broadcast on Zee Keralam in 2019. On screen he has played a police officer, Inspector Arun Mathew, in the crime thriller Anjaam Pathiraa (2020). In 2021 he appeared as Bell Man in The Last Two Days, released on the OTT platform Sainaplay, and played Arjun in Sara’S, released on Amazon Prime. In 2022 he featured as Mathew in Jana Gana Mana and took the titular name role in Aanandam Paramanandam.

One of his notable recent credits is the 2018: Everyone Is a Hero (listed as 2018), released in 2023, in which he played the character Alex. The film became India’s official entry for the 96th Academy Awards and received a nomination for the 2024 Oscars. Earlier in his career he also worked with Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff in the 2015 film ATM.

Harikrishnan’s film work includes a mix of comedy, drama and thriller material, and he has appeared in a number of Malayalam music videos and commercials.
