Harish Dwivedi was born on 22 October 1973 in Teliyajot in Basti district, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in the same locality that he later represented politically. Dwivedi completed his schooling at Kisan Inter College in Basti and went on to study at Hiralal Ramniwas Post Graduate College in Khalilabad, an institution affiliated with Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Political Science, awarded in 1998.

Career

Dwivedi is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He contested the Basti Sadar Assembly seat in 2012 but was not successful. Two years later, in the 2014 general election, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Basti constituency. During his first term he served on parliamentary panels including the Standing Committee on Energy and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Coal. He later served on the Standing Committee on Information Technology and the Standing Committee on Finance.

In 2019 Dwivedi was re-elected from Basti to the Lok Sabha.
