Harsh Jain Biography
Harsh Jain is an Indian entrepreneur best known as the co-founder and Chief Executive (Culture Enforcement Officer) of Dream11, a leading fantasy sports平台.
Early life and backgroundHarsh Anand Kumar Jain was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in 1986 and grew up in the city that remains his hometown. He attended Sevenoaks High School in England between 2001 and 2003 before moving to the United States for higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (2003–2007) and later completed an MBA at Columbia Business School (2012–2014).
Jain comes from a family with business interests. His father, Anand Kumar Jain, is a businessman, and his mother, Sushma Jain, is a painter. He has a sister named Neha Jain. From a young age he was sports-inclined, playing football at school and developing an interest in fantasy sports that would shape his career.
Career
After graduating, Jain interned at Microsoft, where he worked on assessing commercial opportunities for the company in the Push-To-Talk marketplace. In 2007 he joined Jai Corp. Limited in Mumbai as a marketing manager, working at a family-linked business before embarking on his own ventures.
In 2008, Jain co-founded Dream11 with Bhavit Sheth, combining his interests in sports, technology and gaming. Over time Dream11 evolved from experimental formats into a product with strong market fit, particularly after single-match freemium fantasy cricket gained traction in 2012. Under Jain’s leadership, Dream11 grew rapidly: by 2018 the platform had expanded from hundreds of thousands of users to millions. Dream11 is the flagship brand of Dream Sports, which has spawned additional businesses including FanCode, Dream Capital, KheloMore, DreamSetGo, DreamX and the Dream Sports Foundation.
Jain also founded Red Digital, a social media agency, in 2010; within two years the agency had secured major clients across India and beyond. Red Digital was acquired by Mumbai-based marketing firm Gozoop in 2013.
Beyond his companies, Jain took an industry leadership role when he was appointed President of the Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports in 2017. Dream11 became one of India’s most prominent gaming startups, reaching unicorn status as a privately held company valued over $1 billion and securing high-profile partnerships such as the Indian Premier League title sponsorship in 2020.
Public profile
Jain has maintained a visible public profile as Dream11 grew into a major player in Indian fantasy sports. The company faced legal scrutiny in 2017 when a petition challenged the nature of its games; Rajasthan High Court ruled that skill, rather than pure chance, determined outcomes in Dream11 contests. The company later appealed related matters to the Supreme Court as it worked to sustain nationwide operations amid differing state-level regulations.
Jain has commented publicly about his personal motivations for founding Dream11, tracing the idea to his experience as a fantasy football fan and the absence of a fantasy-cricket product in India at the time of the IPL’s launch. He has also responded to investor concerns during periods of heightened public sentiment, stating at one point that Dream11 would not accept future funding from Chinese investors.
Personal life and interests
Harsh Jain married Rachana Shah Jain in 2013. The couple have a son named Krish. In 2020 they established the Raksha Foundation, an NGO focused on providing free education to underprivileged children and promoting animal welfare. The family splits time between Mumbai and a house in Lonavala where Jain enjoys playing football, traveling and spending time with his dogs.
Jain has been open about his affection for animals since childhood; he has owned several pet dogs and cares about animal welfare causes. He also follows football closely and supports Manchester United, and in cricket follows the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
Latest updates
In January 2025, Jain purchased a sea-view apartment in the Malabar Hill area of South Mumbai. Earlier, in November 2021, his wife acquired a luxury duplex on Peddar Road. As of 2021 public figures associated with Dream11 included tens of millions of registered users and a substantial number of paid subscribers, reflecting the platform’s rapid growth since its early years.
