Harsimrat Kaur Badal was born on 25 July 1966 in New Delhi. She completed her schooling at Loreto Convent School, New Delhi, finishing matriculation in 1980, and later earned a diploma in textile designing from South Delhi Polytechnic in 1987. She belongs to a family with a history of public service; her father is Satyajit Singh Majithia and her brother is Bikram Singh Majithia.

Career

Harsimrat entered electoral politics in 2009 when she contested the 15th Lok Sabha election from the Bathinda constituency. She won that contest by a substantial margin and moved into national politics as a Member of Parliament. She successfully retained the Bathinda seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, defeating the joint candidate fielded by the Indian National Congress and the People's Party of Punjab, and again in 2019 by a margin of 21,772 votes.

Following the 2019 general election, Harsimrat Kaur Badal was appointed Cabinet Minister for Food Processing Industries and took oath on 30 May 2019. She resigned from that ministerial position on 17 September 2020.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections she continued her electoral success, winning the Bathinda seat by 49,656 votes.
