Early life and background

Himalay Pannalal Dassani was born on 27 November 1968 in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. He grew up in a family that later relocated to Mumbai, where he completed his schooling at Jamnabai Narsee School and continued his higher education at Mithibai College of Arts and H.R. College of Commerce and Economics. He holds an engineering qualification in Packaging and Technology.

Career

Dassani’s professional life spans a mix of business roles and media production. Early in his career he worked in operations at Hipan Kunstoffe Inc in Los Angeles beginning in 1987, and after almost two years he took on a marketing and operations director role at Cyma Dassani Marketing Private Limited. In 1993 he joined Ceeta Springs & Steels Pvt Ltd as director of marketing, where he helped develop the company’s distribution network across several southern states.

In 1995 he became CEO of Quantum Digital Vision Ltd. Under his leadership the company raised capital to expand manufacturing capacity, developed an export-oriented unit and moved into television and film production. Dassani began producing television serials in November 2002; one of the serials he produced was Kagaz Ki Kashti for Sahara One, and he and his wife collaborated on other television projects including Tanha Dil Tanha Safar in partnership with UTV. The couple later expanded into film production and were reported to be working on a musical love story directed by Raj Sippy and featuring Rishi Kapoor.

Beyond media, Dassani has held roles in infrastructure and construction. In 2009 he was named associate director of business development at Isolux Corsán, a global developer of energy and infrastructure projects; reports attribute company expansion in part to his efforts. Since 2012 he has been the founder of Dassani Constructions, operating out of Pune, Indore and Mumbai.
