Early life and background

Huma Saleem Qureshi was born on 28 July 1986 in New Delhi and grew up in a family with roots in the city's hospitality business. Her father, Saleem Qureshi, runs a chain of restaurants, and she has three brothers, including actor Saqib Saleem. She completed a History Honours degree at Gargi College in New Delhi. During her school and college years she was a voracious reader and active in theatre, joining the group Act 1 where she studied under N. K. Sharma.

Qureshi moved to Mumbai in 2008 to pursue acting. She has described a period of practical struggle after the move, living in a shared PG and taking care to manage expenses while she looked for opportunities.

Career

Qureshi began her professional career in television and advertising before moving into films. Early work included a television role in the series Upanishad Ganga (2012). She appeared in several high-profile television commercials, including ads opposite actors such as Abhishek Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. A mobile phone commercial directed by Anurag Kashyap led to a film offer from him.
