Early life and background

Humaira Kazi was born on 5 October 1993 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Raised in the city she represents on the cricket field, she completed her studies at Mumbai University. Her family includes her father, Zameer Kaazi, her mother, Shabana Kaazi, a brother, Muzammil Kaazi, and a sister, Falak.

Career

Kazi is a right-handed batter and a right-arm off-spin bowler who has represented Mumbai in various domestic competitions governed by the BCCI. She played for Mumbai University in inter-university competitions and was part of the side that won the West Zone inter-university women’s cricket tournament organized by the University of Mumbai and Rizvi College under the MCA.

At the domestic level she has been associated with teams including Mumbai, Mumbai Thunders and Mumbai Capitals. In the 2020–21 season she featured for Mumbai A in the MCA’s Women One Day Tournament, and also represented Mumbai in the Senior Women’s One Day Tournament during the same period, where she recorded a century against Chandigarh.

Kazi served as captain of Mumbai Thunders in the inaugural President’s Cup T20 women’s league. She played a pivotal role in the final, taking 4 wickets for 33 runs and contributing 29 runs in a successful run chase to help her team secure the trophy. In the 2022–23 Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy she recorded a rapid half-century, reaching fifty in just 21 balls.

In the auction for the inaugural Women’s Premier League in March 2023, Kazi was bought by the Mumbai Indians at her base price of Rs 10 lakhs.

She has continued to appear in regional and national competitions, building a profile as an allrounder for her state and franchise sides.

Injury and resilience

During the All-India Inter-University Tournament final in 2015, Kazi suffered a head injury when she was struck while running between the wickets. She was briefly unresponsive and subsequently underwent medical checks, including a CT scan that revealed a minor skull fracture. Medical advice called for rest, and she recovered sufficiently to continue her playing career.
