Early life and background

Imran Khan was born Imran Pal on 13 January 1983 in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. He spent his childhood between India and abroad and attended schools including Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, Blue Mountain School in Coonoor and Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, California. He later studied filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles and holds a degree in filmmaking from there.

Imran’s family has strong connections with the Indian film industry. His mother comes from a film background and is related to director-producer Nasir Hussain; actor Aamir Khan is a maternal relative. His father worked in the technology sector in the United States. Imran was raised principally by his mother after his parents separated when he was a toddler.

Career

Imran began his screen journey very young, appearing as a child actor in Hindi films including roles as the young version of Aamir Khan’s characters in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992). After time spent studying and working outside the film industry, he returned to acting in a lead capacity and made his adult lead debut in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (2008), which brought him widespread recognition.
