Early life and background

Inaamulhaq was born on 14 November 1979 in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in the same town and went on to study at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, where he specialized in acting. His theatrical training and early stage work laid the foundation for a career that would span theatre, television, film, web and short filmmaking.

Career

Inaamulhaq began performing on stage as a child, taking part in theatre from about the age of twelve and later joining the Indian People’s Theatre Association in Saharanpur while still at school. At the National School of Drama he continued to build his stage credentials, appearing in a wide range of plays that included classical and modern works. Notable theatre roles in his early career included parts in productions of Abhijnanashakuntalam, King Lear and The Just Assassins, among others.

He made his screen debut as an actor in the film Firaaq (2008) and started writing for television with the second season of the detective series Karamchand in 2006. His television writing credits later expanded to include shows such as Comedy Circus, Chhote Ustaad-2 and Goldie Ahuja Matric Pass. Inaamulhaq has also contributed to film and digital projects as a dialogue writer, including work on Bbuddah... Hoga Terra Baap and additional dialogue for the web series Screwed Up (2018).

Inaamulhaq’s breakthrough on the film circuit came with the National Award-winning Filmistaan (2012), a project that raised his profile and led to a run of supporting roles in mainstream features. He has appeared in films including Airlift (2016), Jolly LLB 2 (2017), Pagalpanti (2019) and Mere Desh Ki Dharti (2022).
