Early life and background

Isudan Gadhvi was born on 10 January 1982 in Pipaliya, Gujarat. He completed a Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication from Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad. Raised in a family with farming roots—his father is Kherajbhai Gadhvi and his mother is Maniben—Gadhvi identifies as a follower of Kamai Mataji and is reported to belong to an OBC community.

Career

Gadhvi began his professional life in journalism. Early assignments included appearances on Doordarshan and on-field reporting for ETV Gujarati between 2007 and 2011, covering locations such as Porbandar. As a reporter and anchor he worked across several Gujarat cities including Vapi, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

In 2015 Gadhvi joined VTV Gujarati and became the youngest channel head in Gujarati media at that time. He hosted a prime-time debate programme that focused on social and rural issues; the show’s popularity led to an extended runtime. He earned recognition for championing farmers’ concerns and was widely referred to as a people’s journalist or “khedut no patrakaar.” He also presented cultural weekend programming that discussed topics ranging from Hindu traditions to ethical themes.

For the 2022 Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections AAP selected him on 4 November 2022 as its chief ministerial candidate from the Khambhalia constituency. He contested the election but on 8 December 2022 lost the Khambhalia seat to a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate by a margin of approximately 19,000 votes.

Gadhvi has been an outspoken political figure and has been involved in several high‑profile incidents. In 2021 he took part in protests at BJP headquarters in Gandhinagar and was detained with other AAP members; later inquiries recorded that he had been jailed for a period related to those protests. In 2022 local police recorded an incident in which he was alleged to have attended an assembly while intoxicated; subsequent reporting states the investigation confirmed he had been inebriated during that assembly.
