Jai Anant Dehadrai was born in 1988 and raised in Delhi. His family originally hails from Dehad, Nagpur, and relocated to Delhi in the 1980s. He completed his schooling at Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, and went on to pursue legal studies and higher education in India and the United States.

Career

Dehadrai trained professionally in law with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), with a specialization in taxation, from Savitribai Phule Pune University. He supplemented that foundation with a postgraduate diploma in international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution from the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS), Pune. Later, he undertook studies at the Wharton School and completed an LL.M. at the University of Pennsylvania, focusing on US corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, appellate advocacy, and competition law.

His early practical experience included internships at the office of the Chief Justice of India in the Supreme Court and at Tata Motors in Pune. After finishing his LL.B., he worked as an associate attorney at Karanjawala & Company before spending time as a foreign associate at Kline & Specter, P.C. in Philadelphia.

On returning to India, Dehadrai served as a judicial law clerk to Justice S.A. Bobde at the Supreme Court of India. He later worked as a legal consultant at Bennett Coleman and Company Limited (the Times Group) and served as visiting faculty for International Criminal Law at Bennett University.

Dehadrai established his own practice in New Delhi. He is the founder of the Law Chambers of Jai Anant Dehadrai and has acted as a litigator across trial courts, the Delhi High Court, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), and the Supreme Court of India. His practice has encompassed criminal and commercial litigation, and he has held appointments as counsel in government-related roles, including a position with the Office of the Additional Solicitor General of India and as counsel for the Central Government.

In addition to courtroom practice, Dehadrai is an author. In 2014 he published Aequabilis, a legal study examining the judgements of former Chief Justice R.S. Pathak. That work reflects his interest in judicial reasoning and legal scholarship alongside his litigation work.
