Early life and background

Jaihind Kumar was born in Uttar Pradesh and later made Mumbai his hometown. He pursued higher education at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, where he became active in the Pierrot Troupe, a student drama group founded by Sayeed Alam. Seeking formal acting training, he completed a one-year acting course at the Himachal Cultural Research Forum & Theatre Academy in Mandi, an institution affiliated with the National School of Drama.

Career

Jaihind Kumar’s career has spanned acting, scriptwriting and directing. After finishing his acting course he relocated to Mumbai and began auditioning for film and television roles. Early screen credits include small parts such as a fruit seller in the 2010 feature Tum Milo Toh Sahi and a role in the same year’s Payback. He continued to appear in supporting parts on television and in films while also developing his writing.

He appeared in several notable projects over the following years. In 2015 he played the father in the short film Jaya, a performance that led to a best actor nomination at the Madrid International Film Festival. The same year he was part of Miyan Kal Aana, produced by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. A breakthrough came with Laal Rang (2016), a black-comedy crime drama in which he portrayed a character named Harnaam. That film increased his visibility and opened doors to further work.

Subsequent feature and short film credits include Baaraat Company (2017), in which he portrayed a transgender character called Rani, and Rukh (2017) where he shared the screen with Manoj Bajpayee. He directed the short film Utpataang in 2018 and was seen as a goon in the 2019 film Super 30. On digital platforms, Jaihind appeared in the MX Player web series Shiksha Mandal (2022) as the character Madho Donald, and was part of the Disney+ Hotstar series Escaype Live in May 2022 alongside Jaaved Jaaferi. In 2023 he wrote the script for Bole Chudiyan, a film featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Rajpal Yadav, and acted in the courtroom drama Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, released on Zee5 on 23 May 2023, which recounts a real-life legal battle.
