Jassi Gill Biography

Punjabi singer-actor Jasdeep Singh Gill, known professionally as Jassi (or Jassie) Gill, rose from a village near Khanna, Ludhiana to become a noted name в

Early life and background

Jasdeep Singh Gill was born on 26 November 1988 in Jandali village near Khanna in Ludhiana, Punjab. Raised in a Punjabi Sikh family, he attended Sant Ishar Singh Ji Memorial Public School in Karamsar Rara Sahib and later graduated from Gobindgarh College in Punjab. Music emerged as an early talent: a college music professor, Narender Dhiman, recognized his voice and encouraged him to pursue singing. During his college years he repeatedly placed second in his college youth-festival singing competitions, finishing runner-up for four consecutive years.

After college Gill spent a period in Australia, where he supported himself by washing cars. The savings from that work were later used to launch his first recorded song, marking the practical beginning of his professional music career.

Career

Jassi Gill’s initial public release came in 2011 with the song Batchmate. He continued to build a profile in Punjabi music and achieved broader attention in 2013 with the track “Lancer,” which amassed millions of views online and helped raise his public visibility.

In 2014 Gill released his album Chudiyan and transitioned into films the same year, making his Punjabi film debut in Mr. & Mrs. 420. That performance earned him the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Male Debut. Over the following years he expanded into Bollywood, making his Hindi film debut in Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi in 2018.

Across music and film Gill has been associated with a number of popular Punjabi songs, including “Pyar Mera,” “Ik Saal,” “Laden,” “Bapu Zimidar,” “Guitar Sikhda,” “Nikle Currant,” and “Nakhre.” He has combined singing, modeling and acting as the pillars of his professional life and has appeared on magazine covers, including a Valentine’s special lifestyle issue.

Public profile

Jassi Gill is often referred to by the nickname Jassie. He is known for his 1.75 m (5’9”) frame, weighing around 65 kg, with black hair and black eyes. Reported body measurements list a 40-inch chest, 32-inch waist and 14-inch biceps.

His personal tastes include Punjabi staples such as saag and makki di roti. Gill counts cricket and volleyball among his favourite sports and has cited actors like Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan and actresses such as Katrina Kaif and Parineeti Chopra as favourites. Musically, he has expressed admiration for singers including Gurdas Maan, Feroz Khan, Kamal Heer and Amrinder Gill. He has listed a Lancer and a Range Rover among preferred cars.

Though occasionally the subject of rumours about his relationships and private life, Gill has clarified some reports as misinterpretations; for example, images that circulated which suggested a wedding were explained by him as photographs from a photo shoot. A 2015 episode in his public life drew controversy related to comments on Sikh protests.

He maintains friendships within the Punjabi music community and is known to be close to fellow singers Babbal Rai and Prabh Gill.

Latest updates

As of 2014 his album Chudiyan and his film work in Mr. & Mrs. 420 stand out as early milestones in a career that moved from regional music success to film roles, including a Bollywood appearance in 2018. He continues to be best known for a catalog of popular Punjabi tracks that helped establish his name in the industry.
