Jai Prakash "Jay" Wadhwani was born on March 8, 1985. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, he was raised in a family that includes his father, Prakash Wadhwani, and his mother, Anu Wadhwani. Jay has two brothers, Neil and Shaan. His father passed away in 2005.

Jay pursued a broad and varied course of study. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 2003 and later completed further academic work including studies in finance and accounting, law, and business administration. His education record lists attendance at multiple institutions including the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Brigham Young University, the University of Georgia, Stetson University College of Law, Emory University School of Law, Harvard Extension School, UC Berkeley Extension, and time at Georgia Tech.

In 2016 Jay joined LinkedIn as a product operations manager, a role he held until 2019. He next worked at Pandora as a senior product manager through 2020, and then joined Macy’s as a principal product manager from August 2020 until June 2022. In June 2022 he took a product manager role at Instagram.

Alongside corporate roles, Wadhwani has been active as an entrepreneur in the dating and social discovery space. He is co-founder and chief executive officer of SETMEUp, a social discovery platform that seeks to leverage mutual connections and social accountability in online dating.
