Jayalalithaa Jayaram was born on 24 February 1948 in the Mandya district of Mysore, Karnataka. She lost her father when she was very young. Educated at Bishop Cotton Girls High School in Bengaluru, she later attended Stella Maris College in Chennai. Trained in several classical dance forms from an early age, she began performing as a child and entered the film world while still a teenager.
