Career
Gadkar’s screen debut in Hindi cinema came as a group dancer in V. Shantaram’s Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje (1955). She moved into Marathi films and achieved her first leading role in the tamasha-based picture Sangtye Aika (also cited as Sangtey Aika), a release that established her as a prominent actress in Marathi cinema. The film’s popular dance sequence enjoyed enduring recognition and the film itself had an extended theatrical run.
