Early life and backgroundJeev Milkha Singh was born on 15 December 1971 in Chandigarh, India. He grew up in a sporting household as the son of Olympian Milkha Singh and volleyball player Nirmal Kaur. Jeev attended Abilene Christian University in Texas, where he completed a degree in Business and International Studies in 1996.
Career
Jeev turned professional in 1993 and recorded his first professional victories that same year. He established himself primarily on Asian circuits through the mid-1990s, adding a string of wins in India, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. His early success included titles such as the Southern Oklahoma State Open and the Bukit Kiara Golf Championship.
By the late 1990s Jeev expanded his career into Europe after finishing seventh at European Tour Qualifying School in 1997. He secured a place on the European Tour and produced his strongest season in 1999, when he finished 50th on the Order of Merit. That year he also received the Arjuna Award, becoming the third golfer to be so honored.
