Early life and backgroundJehan Daruvala was born on 1 October 1998 in Mumbai. Raised in the city where he also attended Bombay Scottish School, Mahim West, he later completed studies through the National Institute of Open Schooling. Motorsports entered his life early: he began karting around the age of nine as a recreational pursuit with his father and moved fully into competitive karting by 2011.
His family includes his father, Khurshed Daruvala, his mother, Kainaz Daruvala, and an older sister, Delna. Jehan is Indian by nationality and lists Mumbai as his hometown.
Career
Jehan’s racing career followed a steady progression through karting into single-seater categories. He recorded a string of strong results in karting, including national and international podiums and titles through 2011–2014. Early guidance from coach Rayomand Banajee and recognition from a Force India talent search — the One in a Billion programme, in which he finished among the top three — helped him transition into formula racing.
In 2015 Jehan stepped up into Formula Renault machinery with Fortec Motorsport, competing in regional Formula Renault series and securing multiple podiums. The following year he continued to build momentum, competing in the Toyota Racing Series where he claimed multiple race wins and finished the season as runner-up.
Jehan’s European single-seater career advanced through the FIA Formula 3 pathway. He raced in European Formula 3 with Carlin Motorsport in 2017 and later achieved victories and notable results with teams including Prema Powerteam. His 2019 season in the inaugural FIA Formula 3 Championship produced two race wins and a third-place finish in the championship.
He moved into FIA Formula 2 competition in 2020 with Carlin and later raced for Prema Racing and MP Motorsport in subsequent seasons. Across his F2 career he has collected multiple race wins and podium finishes, including a third-place finish in the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship and further podium results in 2023. He has also raced for Mumbai Falcons India Racing Ltd in the F3 Asian Championship, finishing third in that series after multiple race wins.
Alongside his F2 campaigns, Jehan has taken opportunities to test Formula 1 machinery. In 2022 he drove the McLaren MCL35M on multiple occasions at Silverstone, Algarve and Circuit Paul Ricard. In late 2022 he joined Mahindra Racing as a test and reserve driver for Formula E, and he later participated in rookie testing for Formula E machinery, making his debut at the Berlin rookie test in 2023.
