Early life and background

Jemimah Ivan Rodrigues was born on 5 September 2000 in Bhandup, Mumbai, and grew up in a sporting household. Her father, Ivan Rodrigues, coached at her school and helped establish the girls' cricket team there. Jemimah has two brothers, Enoch and Eli, who practised cricket with her during childhood. The family later moved to Bandra West to access better sports facilities.

She attended St. Joseph's Convent High School in Mumbai and went on to study at Rizvi College of Arts, Science & Commerce. In addition to cricket, Jemimah represented Maharashtra in age-group hockey and was selected for U-17 and U-19 state hockey teams during her school days. She started playing season cricket at a very young age and was selected for the U-19 state cricket team when she was 13.

Career

Jemimah is a right-handed batter who also bowls right-arm offbreak. She made her international T20 debut for India against South Africa on 13 February 2018 and debuted in One Day Internationals against Australia on 12 March 2018. Her jersey for India has been number 5.

At domestic level she has played for the Mumbai women's cricket team and, in franchise cricket, has been part of teams such as the Supernovas in the Indian domestic franchise circuit. In England she turned out for Yorkshire Diamonds in the women's county Twenty20 competition.

A notable milestone in her early career came in November 2017 when she scored 202 runs from 163 balls for an under-age side against Saurashtra, making her the second woman to score a double century in a 50-over match. Earlier performances include a 178 from 142 in an under-19 tournament against Gujarat.

Jemimah was part of India's squad for the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 in the West Indies. The International Cricket Council highlighted her as a standout player following that tournament. She was later included in India's squad for the 2020 ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

In the inaugural Women’s Premier League auction in February 2023 she was bought by Delhi Capitals. Her long-term coaching influence has been her father, Ivan Rodrigues, who has worked with her since she was a child.
