Jigneshkumar Natvarlal Mevani was born on 11 December 1980 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Raised in a family originally from Meu village in Mehsana district, he grew up in Ahmedabad and completed his early schooling at Swastik Vidyalaya and Vishwa Vidyalay Madhyamik Shala. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from H.K. Arts College in 2003 and later obtained a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from D. T. Law College, Ahmedabad, in 2013. Mevani also holds a diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Mevani established himself as a social activist and is the convener of the Una Dalit Atyachar Ladat Samiti, an organization involved in Dalit rights protests in Gujarat.
