Jo Yu-ri was born on 22 October 2001 in Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, South Korea. Raised in Busan, she attended local schools including Busan Moohyun Elementary School and Haeyeon Middle School. From a young age she enjoyed music and aspired to work with instruments; she plays piano, guitar and drums. She is known to be an animal lover and has a dog named Gamja and a cat named Yona.

Career

Jo first appeared on television in 2017 as a contestant on the Mnet survival program Idol School. She finished the show in 15th place and did not debut with the winning group. In 2018 she returned to the competitive reality format by taking part in Produce 48. Finishing third in that competition, she became one of the twelve members of the multinational girl group Iz*One and debuted with the group later that year.

With Iz*One Jo contributed to the group's recorded output, including work on the 2020 Korean studio album Bloom*Iz. She is credited as a composer and lyricist on the song "Someday" from that album. Iz*One also released a Japanese studio album, Twelve, in 2020. The group's contract concluded and Iz*One disbanded on 29 April 2021.

After the group ended, Jo continued her career as a recording artist and performer. In June 2021 she provided vocals for "Story of Us," a track featured in the soundtrack of the television series Monthly Magazine Home. She has also recorded songs for other Korean dramas, including contributions tied to Do You Like Brahms? (2020), The Law Cafe (2022), and The Fabulous (2022).

Jo launched her solo recording career with the single album Glassy in 2021. She released her first EP, Op.22 Y-Waltz: in Major, on 2 June 2022; the EP included the lead track "Love Shhh!" and she is credited as composer and lyricist on the album track "Opening." Later in 2022 she released a second single album, Op.22 Y-Waltz: in Minor.

In addition to her music work, Jo has pursued acting. She appeared as Oh Ro-shi in the 2022 web series Mimicus on Rakuten Viki and took a special role as Sieun in season 2 of the web series Work Later, Drink Now that same year.
