Jock Zonfrillo was a Scottish-born chef and television presenter best known as a judge on MasterChef Australia and as the founder of the Orana Foundation.

Early life and background

Born Barry Zonfrillo on 4 August 1976 in Glasgow, Scotland, Jock Zonfrillo grew up in a working-class family; his father worked as a barber and his mother as a hairdresser. He left formal school at 15 to pursue a kitchen apprenticeship and spent his teenage years working in restaurants, first as a dishwasher and then progressing through apprenticeships and roles in the U.K. hospitality scene. Zonfrillo built a culinary career that moved between the United Kingdom and Australia. After early roles in Britain, including work under Marco Pierre White, he relocated to Australia, where he held a head chef position at Restaurant 41 in Sydney. He returned to the U.K. for a time but came back to Australia in 2000 and increasingly incorporated Australian native ingredients into his cooking.

In November 2013 he opened Restaurant Orana in Adelaide, later adding Street ADL and other ventures.
