Early life and background

Juhi Babbar was born on 20 July 1979 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The daughter of actor and politician Raj Babbar and theatre actress Nadira Babbar, she grew up in Mumbai and was exposed to performing arts from an early age. Her family includes two brothers, Aarya Babbar and Prateik Babbar, the latter her half-brother.

Career

Juhi began her on-screen career in the early 2000s. Her Hindi film debut came with Kash Aap Hamare Hote (2003). She has appeared in feature films across the years including It’s My Life (2013), Aiyaary (2018), Faraaz (2023) and Farrey (2023), and also acted in the short silent film Reflections (2005).

On television, Juhi played Radhika Yagnik in the NDTV Imagine serial Ghar Ki Baat Hai (2009). Beyond screen roles, she is active in theatre as a performer and director. She has been involved with several stage productions, performing in plays such as Begum Jaan, Jji Jaisi Aap Ki Marzi, With Love Aap Ki Saiyaara and Pencil Se Brush Tak. In 2007 she directed the bilingual stage production Pukar for the NGO Child Rights and You.

Juhi has worked closely with the Ekjute Theatre Group, which is associated with her mother, and has helped organise acting workshops for the company. She has also contributed to training other actors; for example, she coached Saiee Manjrekar for the Hindi film Dabangg 3 in 2019.

Awards

In recognition of her contribution to theatre, Juhi received the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2010.
