Early life and background
Jyothi Surekha Vennam was born on 3 July 1996 in Challapalli, in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. She grew up in Challapalli and attended Nalanda Vidyaniketan in Vijayawada before completing higher studies at K L University. Her father, Vennam Surendra Kumar, is a former kabaddi player and a veterinary doctor; her mother is Sri Durga.

As a child she was active in swimming and at age three began formal swimming; she later set a record by swimming 5 km across the Krishna River. That achievement earned her an entry in the Limca Book of Records. Limited local opportunities in swimming led her to shift sports and join an archery academy, beginning structured archery training around age 11.

Career
Jyothi transitioned quickly through junior ranks after taking up archery. Within a year of joining the academy she won her first medal in the Under-13 national event in Vijayawada and went on to collect multiple junior titles.

Competing in the compound discipline, she has built an extensive medal record across Asian Championships, World Youth Championships, World Archery Championships, Archery World Cup stages, the Summer Universiade and the Asian Games.
