Jyothika Sadanah was born on 18 October 1978 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She grew up in a family connected to the film world; her father worked as a film producer and several of her siblings have been involved in the industry. Jyothika completed her schooling at Learners Academy in Mumbai and went on to graduate from Mithibai College with a degree in psychology.

Career

Jyothika began her screen career in 1998 with a role in the Hindi film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna. She quickly expanded her work to South Indian cinema, making a Tamil debut with Vaali (1999). Over the years she has acted in films across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, and has taken roles in multilingual projects such as the trilingual Little John (2001), which released in Tamil, Hindi and English.

Her performances won early recognition: she received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South for Vaali and the Filmfare Best Actress – Tamil award for Kushi (2000).
