Early life and background

Jyoti Raj was born Dhana Lakshmi on 12 December 1987 in Warangal, Telangana. Raised in a family with four sisters, she is the youngest sibling. She attended Sri Sai Shivani Talent High School in Hanmakonda, Warangal, and later studied at Sri Kakatiya Junior College in Boduppal, Hyderabad. Her hometown is listed as Hyderabad.

From childhood Jyoti showed an interest in dance, learning moves by watching actors on television rather than through formal training. That self-taught approach continued into her school years and helped set the foundation for a career in performance.

Career

Jyoti began appearing on television dance shows as a young performer. She auditioned for the reality dance series Aata Juniors on Zee Telugu and advanced to the finals. After that she participated in other dance reality programs and performed at a variety of public events and award functions, including appearances at Vishaka Beach Utsav (2019) and at ceremonies such as the Zee Kutymbam Awards, Santosham Suman TV South Indian Awards, Vysya Lime Light Awards, and Cinegoers Awards.

On the small screen she expanded into acting, taking on the negative role of Jwala in the Zee Telugu serial Mudhu Bidda. Jyoti has also worked alongside her husband in competitive and reality formats: the couple competed together on IshmartJodi in 2022 and on Mr & Mrs Okariki Okaru in 2023. In 2023 the pair won the trophy on Star Maa’s dance reality show Neethone Dance.

Jyoti made her Telugu film debut in 2023, appearing as Poorna in the film Love You Too. That same year she and her husband were appointed brand ambassadors for the outstation carpooling service IN A TRIP. Beyond performing, Jyoti teaches dance at Sandeep Steps Dance Academy (Team Aata Sandeep) in Hyderabad, sharing her experience with students at the academy.
