Early life and background

Kaizzad Capadia was born on 4 December 1971 in Mumbai into a Parsi family. From an early age he was driven to build strength; as a teenager he weighed just 49 kg and became determined to change his physique. After finishing school he stepped into the gym for the first time in May 1987 and quickly developed an intense interest in lifting and the science of training.

He studied at Sulochana Devi Singhania High School and later attended Mumbai University, completing a bachelor’s degree in economics. His family supported his early efforts — his mother intervened to help him try different career options before he settled into the fitness profession.

Career

Capadia moved from competitive bodybuilding into professional coaching. During his college years he competed in and won several regional bodybuilding contests, including Junior Mr Mumbai and top finishes at national junior level. In later years he won Mr Mumbai (2005) and Mr Maharashtra (2006 and 2008), building both his reputation and experience as an athlete.

In the late 1990s he became one of India’s first full-time professional personal trainers after mentorship and support from fitness expert Madhukar Talwalkar. A client request in 1999 led him to consult on a gym set-up called Exert, and by 2002 he had launched his own company, K11 Fitness Management Co. Pvt. Ltd. The name reflected the original staff size of the business. As the consultancy grew, Capadia and his team established the K11 Academy of Fitness Sciences to train and upskill staff and aspiring trainers.

Over his career Capadia trained and advised a range of clients, including film stars. He is credited with helping to transform well-known actors, and he became widely regarded as a pioneer of personal training in India. He emphasized a distinction between being healthy and being fit: in his view, health describes normal physiological functioning, while fitness describes the capacity to perform physical tasks beyond ordinary expectations.

Public profile

Capadia cultivated a public presence around fitness education and coaching. He encouraged young bodybuilders to pursue continual learning, to apply what they study, and to lead by example. He often shared insights about diet, training and the practical application of scientific knowledge in the gym.

Outside the gym he had a range of personal interests. He was a dog lover who frequently posted pictures with dogs on social media. He was also passionate about two‑wheelers and owned a notable collection of bikes. His vehicle collection included a Toyota Camry Hybrid, and among his motorcycles were a BMW GS and a Harley Davidson NightRod.

Personal life

Kaizzad was married to Kalyani Tilak Capadia, who served as CEO of K11 Education Pvt. Ltd.; the couple married on 21 March 2012. His father was Farrokh Capadia and he had a sister named Farrida. Capadia practiced Zoroastrianism and followed non-vegetarian dietary habits. He bore tattoos related to his professional identity and numerology: his company’s name was inked on his left shoulder and numerologically significant numbers on his right arm.

He stood about 172 cm tall (5'8") and his listed competition and personal measurements included a 49‑inch chest, 29‑inch waist and 18‑inch biceps. His weight was reported at around 90 kg (198 lbs). His eye and hair color were noted as black.

Later years and death

Capadia continued to lead K11 and to mentor students at the K11 Academy, describing his greatest satisfaction as seeing his students succeed in life and in the fitness profession. On 13 October 2021, reports stated that he died after contracting Covid-19.

At the time of his death in October 2021 he was 50 years old. His contributions to personal training and to the establishment of structured fitness education in India remain part of his public legacy.
