Early life and background

Kamal Khan was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, in 1960. He completed postgraduate studies in English literature and pursued further coursework in Russian philology at Moscow State University. His facility with the Russian language led to an early post as a Russian interpreter at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bengaluru.

Career

Khan moved into journalism after his stint as an interpreter, beginning with local media in Lucknow. He reported for regional publications and broadcasters including Amrit Prabhat, Navbharat Times and Dainik Jagran before joining NDTV in 1995. Over the years he rose to become the channel’s resident editor for the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand region, a role in which he spent more than two decades.
