She later studied at Hindu College Amritsar and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree. Cricket was not her first sporting passion; she competed at the national level as a skater before focusing on cricket. Her grandfather accompanied her to practice sessions at the Dhruve Pandove Stadium in Patiala while she trained at the Cricket Hub academy under coach Kamal Sandhu.

Career

Kanika developed through the Punjab age-group system, captaining the state under-16 and under-19 sides. She has represented Punjab at multiple levels including Punjab U-16, Punjab U-19, Punjab Women, and North Zone. Her domestic career expanded to national age-group sides and India Women’s D team appearances in Challenger Trophy competitions.

As an allrounder, Kanika bats left-handed and bowls right-arm offbreak. She has produced notable performances in domestic one-day and T20 competitions. During the 2020–2021 Women’s Senior One-Day Trophy she was named to the Punjab squad. In March 2021 she recorded a five-wicket haul against Mumbai. Later that year she scored 90 off 88 balls against Rajasthan and took another five-wicket haul versus Maharashtra, finishing the tournament tied as one of the leading wicket-takers with 15 dismissals.

Kanika continued to feature for Punjab in 2022–2023, contributing with both bat and ball in the Senior One Day Trophy. She also played in the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy as part of India Women’s D team, producing a four-wicket performance in December 2021 and taking part in the side that won the 2022–2023 edition of the competition.
