Kanwaljit Singh was born on 19 September and hails from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in the state of Uttar Pradesh and attended St. George's College in Mussoorie before studying at JV Jain College in Saharanpur. He later pursued formal training in acting at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune after early attempts at other career paths did not work out.

Career

Singh began his screen career in the late 1970s, making his film debut in the 1977 Hindi feature Shankar Hussain in the role of Inaam Husain. He transitioned to television and became a familiar presence with roles such as Satbir in the landmark series Buniyaad (1986). Over subsequent decades he worked steadily across film and television, appearing in mainstream Hindi movies including Satte Pe Satta (1982), Dil Maange More (2004), Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011), Bang Bang (2014), and Tribhanga (2021).
