Karan Kothari was born and raised in Mumbai, where he attended Cathedral and John Connon School. During his school years he studied subjects including economics, accountancy and psychology. Details of his birth date and age have not been publicly disclosed.

He moved to the United States for higher education and completed a BA in Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles. While still a student he took part in a summer business program at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. Kothari’s early professional experience combined marketing, volunteer work and internships.
