Early life and backgroundKaran Mehra was born on 10 September 1982 in Jalandhar, Punjab, and was raised primarily in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He attended Apeejay School in Noida and later pursued studies in fashion design at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi. He also completed an acting course at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute in Mumbai and has pursued additional correspondence studies, including BCA-level work. Mehra comes from a Punjabi family; his father, Ajay Mehra, runs a construction business, and his mother, Bella Mehra, is a homemaker. He has a younger brother named Kunal Mehra.
Career
Mehra began his professional life as a fashion designer after completing his diploma in fashion design. He worked with a Delhi-based fashion firm for several years and later moved to Mumbai, where his design work included creating an outfit for Amitabh Bachchan. Transitioning into film and television, Mehra had a small role in the 2008 Bollywood film Love Story 2050 and appeared in a number of television commercials.
His breakthrough came in 2009 when he was cast as Naitik Singhania on the Star Plus serial Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The role made him a familiar face in Indian households; he played the character until 2016, leaving the show for health reasons. Outside the serial, Mehra’s television résumé includes appearances in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya (2016), Khatmal E Ishq (2017), Ek Bhram…Sarvagun Sampanna (2019), and Shubharambh (2020). He also took part in reality programming: he and his then-wife Nisha Rawal were contestants on Nach Baliye 5 (2012) and appeared in the follow-up special Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati in 2013. In 2016 he entered Bigg Boss 10 as a participant.
Mehra continued working across formats in later years. He featured in the music video for the song "Bewafa Tera Masoom Chehra" in 2020. In 2021 he appeared as a police officer in the Punjabi television serial Mawaan Thandiyan Chawan and competed in the music reality show Zee Punjabi Antakshari the same year.
