Karan Singh Grover was born on 23 February 1982 in New Delhi and grew up in a Sikh Punjabi family. His childhood included a lengthy period living in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, where his family spent about twelve years. He attended the International Indian School in Dammam and later studied at the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition in Mumbai, earning a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Hotel Administration. Early in his working life he took a hospitality job at the Sheraton Hotel in Muscat as a marketing executive before moving into modelling and acting.

Grover began his on-screen career with television. His TV debut came in 2004 with the MTV serial Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi, followed by several small parts and cameos in shows such as Princess Dollie Aur Uska Magic Bag, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Solhah Singaarr and Parrivaar.
