Early life and background

Karanvir Bohra was born Manoj Bohra on 28 August 1982 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Raised in a family with film industry connections, he is the son of filmmaker Mahendra Bohra and the grandson of producer Ramkumar Bohra. He attended GD Somani Memorial School in Mumbai and later graduated from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics. He changed his screen name from Manoj to Karanvir in 2007.

As a child he made his first on-screen appearance in the 1990 film Tejaa. He received formal Kathak training under Pandit Veeru Krishnan for two years, and has long maintained an interest in dance and fitness.

Career

Karanvir's early television work included the series Just Mohabbat. He worked behind the scenes as an assistant on television productions such as CID and Achanak 37 Saal Baad in 2000 before moving into larger acting and hosting roles.

On-screen, he has been seen in film and television. His adult film debut came in Kismat Konnection (2008), and he went on to play notable roles in mainstream TV serials. He received recognition for negative and dramatic roles, winning the Indian Telly Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role in 2006 for Kasautii Zindagii Kay, and again earning Indian Telly and Indian Television Academy awards in 2012 for Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava?. His television work also earned a Zee Gold Award in 2015 and several other industry honors through 2018.

Karanvir has participated in and hosted numerous reality and competition shows. In 2008 he co-hosted Ek Se Badhkar Ek and competed in shows such as Nach Baliye 4 and Mr. & Ms. TV. He has been a contestant on dance and stunt shows including Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi Darr Ka Blockbuster (2014), the latter alongside his wife. He replaced Abhay Deol as host of Gumrah: End of Innocence for its fourth season, later leaving the program in 2015 over contractual and financial disagreements. In 2017 he hosted India’s Best Judwaah on Zee TV.

Beyond television he produced and starred with his wife in the Punjabi film Love Yoou Soniye (2013). In 2012 he launched a men’s clothing line called Pegasus in collaboration with fashion designer Amy Billimoria.
