Karishma Tanna was born on 21 December 1983 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a middle-class Gujarati family. Raised in the city where she continues to live, she attended Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics and completed a graduate degree. From an early age she was drawn to performance, and by 17 she had begun working on television.

Career

Tanna made her first screen appearance in television, joining the long-running daily soap Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in the early 2000s. After establishing herself on TV, she moved into films, making her Bollywood debut in 2005 in Dosti: Friends Forever, in which she appeared in a supporting role. Her first leading role on the big screen came in 2011 with the Kannada film I Am Sorry Mathe Banni Preethsona.
