Early life and backgroundKaruna Pandey was born on 4 September 1980 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The daughter of P.C. Pandey, a military farms officer, and Deepa Pandey, a homemaker, she spent her school years attending Kendriya Vidyalaya branches in multiple cities because of her father’s service. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in English and pursued postgraduate studies in performing arts (acting) at the Department of Indian Theatre, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Pandey trained in classical dance from an early age and is a practitioner of Kathak and Bharatnatyam. Those disciplines have remained part of her artistic identity alongside her work in acting, choreography and other creative pursuits.
Career
Karuna Pandey began her on-screen career in 2003 with a role in the short film The Bypass. She transitioned to television the following year, appearing in the Zee TV series Rooh, and went on to build a steady presence in serial drama over the next two decades.
Her breakthrough came with the role of Shaili Vimal Prasad in Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli in 2009. Over the years she has taken lead and significant roles in a variety of TV shows, including Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki (2005), Shraddha (2009) and Jhilmil Sitaaron Ka Aangan Hoga (2013) on Sahara One. In 2013 she appeared as Kamini in the Life OK series Khauff Begins… Ringa Ringa Roses, and in 2015 she played Padmini Awasthi in the serial Bhaage Re Mann.
On the big screen, Pandey appeared as Maharani Bhagwanti Singh in the 2015 family film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. She continued to work in films with a role as Prabha Mausi in Motichoor Chaknachoor (2019).
Television remained central to her profile: in 2016 she portrayed Mata Kusum Sundari Choudhary in Devanshi, a performance that earned her the Best Villain award at the Colors Golden Petal Awards.
