Keshav Prasad Maurya was born on 7 May 1969 in Sirathu, Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in a family headed by his father, Shyam Lal, and later made Allahabad his hometown. Maurya completed a Bachelor of Arts in Hindi literature. He comes from an Other Backward Class (OBC) background and practices Hinduism.

Career

Maurya began his public life with involvement in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bajrang Dal. He entered electoral politics in 2002 and contested assembly elections in 2002, 2007 and 2012, serving as the sitting MLA from the Sirathu assembly constituency at one stage. In 2014 he won the Phulpur Lok Sabha seat and became a Member of Parliament for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

In April 2016 Maurya was appointed president of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit. He has also served as Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh: on 25 March 2022 he took oath for a second term as deputy chief minister at a ceremony in Lucknow.

Maurya contested the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly election from Sirathu but lost the seat to Pallavi Patel by 7,337 votes.
