Early life and backgroundKhushbu Sundar was born Nakhat Khan on 29 September 1970 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra. She grew up in Mumbai and completed her upper primary education at Swami Muktananda High School in Andheri. Her family includes her mother Najma Khan and three brothers. Khushbu later adopted the screen name given by her parents when she started as a child artist.
Career
Khushbu began working in films as a child artist, appearing in the 1980 song sequence from The Burning Train. She transitioned into lead roles in the mid-1980s, making her Hindi film debut as a lead in Jaanoo (1985) and moving into South Indian cinema with a Telugu debut in Kaliyuga Pandavulu (1986). Over the following years she established herself in Tamil cinema and became one of the industry's leading actresses, appearing in more than 100 Tamil films and over 150 South Indian films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
Her work in Hindi films as a young performer included appearances in titles such as Kaalia and Deewana Mujh Sa Nahin, the latter featuring a popular solo song that remained well known at social celebrations. After 1986 Khushbu focused primarily on South Indian productions and performed opposite many notable actors from the region. Her Malayalam credits include Uncle Bun, Vrudhanmare Sookshikkuka, Independence, Manathe Kottaram, Kaiyoppu and Mr. Marumakan. Her Kannada filmography features titles such as Ranadheera, Anjada Gandu and Shanthi Kranthi.
Beyond acting, Khushbu and her husband Sundar C. named their production company Avni Cinemax after their daughters and have been involved in film production. She also worked as a television presenter during her career.
