In October 2019 JYP Entertainment announced that Woo-jin had decided to leave Stray Kids following the end of his exclusive contract, citing personal reasons. After his departure he pursued a solo career as a singer and actor.
As a solo artist he released his first solo album, The Moment: A Minor, in 2021. He continued releasing music and in 2023 put out his second EP, The Moment: Bounce. His solo work has been acknowledged at award events; in 2023 he received a Best Artist award at the Asia Top Awards.

Controversy and legal response
In September 2020 Twitter posts alleged instances of sexual harassment involving Woo-jin.
