Kishore Kumar G Biography

Kishore Kumar G is an Indian actor and producer from Channapatna, Karnataka, known for character roles across Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi/T

Early life and background

Kishore Kumar G was born on 14 August 1974 in Channapatna, Karnataka. He grew up in the Tumakuru region, attending St Teresa’s School and Sri Siddhartha High School in Kunigal before moving to Bengaluru for higher studies. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and went on to earn a master’s degree in Kannada literature while studying at National College, Basavanagudi, and Bangalore University.

Kishore’s early exposure to performance came at school. He first performed in a play at age 11, an experience he has recalled as formative. During his college years he continued with theatre, appearing in stage productions such as Teregalu and Samrat Ashoka. Alongside his interest in the arts, he developed an abiding interest in farming, influenced by time spent with his grandfather and by practices he later pursued with his wife on their land near the Bannerghatta area of Bengaluru.

Career

Kishore began acting in supporting roles across South Indian cinema. His Kannada film debut came in 2004 with Kanti, in which he played Beera; the same year he received recognition at the Karnataka State Film Awards for his supporting work. He went on to appear in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films — including Happy (Telugu, 2006), Polladhavan (Tamil, 2007) and Thiruvambadi Thamban (Malayalam, 2012).

While he continued taking character roles in regional films, Kishore also branched into production under his banner Visthaara. His portrayal of the notorious forest brigand Veerappan in the 2013 Kannada film Attahasa brought wider attention to his work; that film was later screened at an international festival in Kuching, Malaysia.

In the late 2010s and early 2020s Kishore expanded into digital series. He played Vikram in the Telugu web series High Priestess on Zee5 (2019) and had a supporting role as Imran Pasha in the Hindi series The Family Man the same year. He appeared in the Telugu web series Addham (2020) and in 2022 was seen as Nayak in the Hindi series She season 2 on Netflix; Kishore has described how a farming-related video led director Imtiaz Ali to consider him for that role. He also featured as Ramon in the Telugu platform Aha’s Addham and was reported to have a role in the Tamil historical Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022).

Recognition and awards

Kishore’s early work was acknowledged with state-level awards: he won Karnataka State Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for Kanti (2004) and received a Best Supporting Actor recognition for Rakshasa at the state awards in 2005. In 2022 he received an OTT Play Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role for his performance in She season 2.

Public profile

Kishore balances his film and web work with a public interest in natural and organic farming. Alongside his wife, Vishalakshi Padmanabhan, he cultivates crops at their farm near Bannerghatta and has spoken publicly about spending the COVID-19 lockdown focused on agriculture and experimenting with pulses, paddy and ragi. Vishalakshi, who studied at the same college as Kishore though at a later time, is a co-founder of an initiative that supplies organic vegetables in Bengaluru.

Before his full-time entry into cinema he worked as a newspaper salesman and also assisted fashion designer Vidyasagar during an early period. Kishore has described a background in literature and teaching; he taught briefly at college and has said that he prefers discussion-based approaches to literature. He is also a follower of the philosophies of Jiddu Krishnamurti and has noted that, if not for acting, he might have pursued farming or writing more intensively.

Latest updates

In 2022 Kishore appeared in multiple projects across languages, including a role in She season 2 and a part in Ponniyin Selvan: I. Reports from that year also indicated he would appear in the Bollywood film Red Collar directed by Chandrashekar Bandiyappa. He continues to split his time between acting, production and farming, and has mentioned working on a film script with a friend.
