Early life and background

Komal Ravindra Zanzad was born on 10 July 1991 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and grew up in the same city. She completed her graduation in mechanical engineering from GH Raisoni College of Engineering. From an early age she loved cricket, often playing gully cricket with local boys. That early interest led her to join a summer cricket camp at age 13 at the Shree Binzani City College ground, where she was the only girl participant and began formal training under coach Dalvi.

She later trained under Baba Rocque at the Western Coalfields Limited ground and spent time at the Mujumdar ground as part of her development. Her family includes her parents, Ravindra and Rajani Zanzad, and two sisters, Snehal (elder) and Darshana (younger). Komal has said her father had hoped she would become an engineer.

Career

Komal’s domestic debut for Vidarbha Women came when she was around 15 years old. She developed into a left‑arm medium‑fast bowler who bats right‑handed. Her performances in domestic competitions attracted attention, and a standout moment came in the 2018–19 Senior Women’s One Day League when she took nine wickets for eight runs in a match against Haryana, helping dismiss the opposition for 31 and cementing her place in higher‑level squads.

That season’s form led to selection for the India Red side in the 2018–19 Senior Women’s Challenger Trophy. Komal also featured for India A Women and India C Women in other domestic representative fixtures. In 2019 she was picked for an Indian Board President’s Women’s XI warm‑up match against England, where she finished with three dismissals for 14 runs in seven overs. Her display contributed to a call into India’s WT20I squad for the England series in February 2019, making her one of two players from Vidarbha to earn national selection at that time.

Komal has been a regular performer in domestic cricket, producing match‑winning spells against teams such as Punjab and Andhra Pradesh. She has also taken part in franchise T20 competitions: she played for IPL Velocity in the Women’s T20 Challenge and was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore at the inaugural Women’s Premier League auction in February 2023. She represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2023 Tata Women’s Premier League. At the state level she continues to wear the Vidarbha Women jersey and has been associated with India Red Women as well.
