Kotha Prabhakar Reddy was born on 6 June 1966 in Potharam village, Dubbak Mandal in Medak district, Telangana. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1985 from Government Degree College, Medak, which was affiliated with Osmania University. Raised in a family rooted in the Medak region, he is the son of Kishta Reddy and Lalithamma.

Before entering public life he worked in the family business, Soni Transportations, a Hyderabad-based logistics company that operates buses and trucks. He is married to K. Manjulatha and they have two children: a son, K. Prithvi Krishna Reddy, and a daughter, K. Keerthi Reddy, who has served as co-founder and COO at StaTwig and was named to the Forbes India 30 Under 30 list in 2021.
