Kshitish Date Biography

Kshitish Date is an Indian actor, director and writer known for his work in Marathi theatre, film and television. Trained in visual communication, he began

Early life and background
Kshitish Date was born on 18 October in Pune, Maharashtra, where he also grew up. He attended Panditrao Agashe School and later studied at Sir Parshurambhau College in Pune. He went on to pursue a Master of Arts in Visual Communication. His father, Girish Date, has worked as a professor at the Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Pune, and his mother is Rohini Date.

Career
Date launched his career in the performing arts as a theatre practitioner, spending roughly eight years as a stage actor with groups including Grips Theatre and other companies. He has worked as an actor, director and writer, moving between stage, television and film.

His screen debut came in the Marathi feature Dhuka (2015), in which he played the role of Harshu. That same period saw him appear on Marathi television in the series Bun Maska (2016) as Anay. He also acted in the short film And Buddha Smiled (2015), for which he additionally provided a voice role.

In theatre, Date received notable recognition in 2018 for his involvement with the play Item. Item was co-awarded the Best Play prize at the 13th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META), and Date was honoured with the Best Actor Award in a Lead Role (Male) at the same ceremony. Another production he was connected to, Nona, was also named Best Play that year — the first time in META’s history that the prize was shared between two plays.

Date has directed stage work as well; in 2017 he directed a Hindi play titled Item, which was produced by the 10-year-old Natak Company. His theatre pieces have appeared at festivals such as the Old World Theatre Festival at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, where Item was presented in October 2018.

On screen, Date continued to expand his credits. In 2022 he appeared in the Marathi film Dharamveer, a bio-political drama based on the story of late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe; the film was released on ZEE5 on 13 May 2022. That same year he also served as a host for the Mirchi Music Awards.

Artistic approach and interests
Date has described an interest in interrogating social themes through his creative work, particularly around gender and representation in advertising and performance. His experience in the advertising and film industries informed a perspective on how images of women are used to sell products when there is no substantive content to show, and this concern has influenced his theatre and directorial choices.

Outside of professional work he pursues photography as a leisure interest.

Public profile
Kshitish Date is married to actress Rucha Apte; the couple, who dated for several years, were married on 25 April 2021. Their wedding took place during the COVID-19 lockdown and was a small, family-only event.

He is known within Marathi-language cinema and theatre circles as a performer who has bridged stage and screen, and his METAs recognition in 2018 reinforced his visibility in contemporary Marathi theatre.

Latest updates
In 2022 Date was visible both on digital cinema—appearing in Dharamveer on ZEE5—and in the music awards circuit as a host for the Mirchi Music Awards. He continues to work across theatre and film projects and maintains an interest in directing and writing for the stage.
