Kumar Eswaran Biography

Kumar Eswaran is an Indian mathematical physicist and professor from Pune, Maharashtra, known for publishing a proposed solution to the longstanding Rieman

Early life and background

Kumar Eswaran was born in 1947 in Pune, Maharashtra. He trained in physics and mathematics, earning an MSc in Physics and completing a PhD in Theoretical Physics in June 1973. His formal studies included time at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and the University of Madras, Chennai.

Career

After completing his doctorate, Eswaran joined the research and development division of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in New Delhi, where he rose to the position of additional general manager. During his career he also conducted research at Ohio State University, focusing on wave scattering and propagation.

In 1999 he left BHEL and took a faculty position at Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (SNIST) in Hyderabad, joining the Department of Computer Science and Engineering as a professor. Beyond academia, he has been involved in industry leadership as CEO of Altech Power and Energy Systems Private Limited (ALPES), a company providing solutions in advanced computing techniques, power plant engineering, monitoring, and system modeling.

Research and the Riemann Hypothesis

Eswaran is described as a mathematical physicist who has worked on several mathematical problems, and he published a proposed solution to the Riemann Hypothesis, a problem long regarded as one of mathematics’ most difficult questions. He made his research publicly available about five years prior to the 2020 review mentioned in available records. In February 2020 a committee of eight mathematicians was formed to examine his work. Among the reviewers was M. Seetharaman, a retired professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Madras, who evaluated Eswaran’s analysis and concluded that the argument was exhaustive, clearly explained, and established.

Eswaran has explained the motivation for addressing the Riemann Hypothesis in public comments, noting the hypothesis’s importance for understanding the distribution of prime numbers and its relevance to counting primes at large scales.

Other interests and publications

In addition to his work in mathematical physics, Eswaran has been active in areas such as artificial intelligence, neural networks, and related mathematical fields. He has also authored a poetry collection titled Strands of Verse.

Public profile

Following the publication of his work on the Riemann Hypothesis, Eswaran received invitations to speak at several universities and colleges about his research. His physical appearance is described in available profiles as approximately 173 cm (5'8") tall with black eyes and grey hair.

Latest updates

A review panel convened in February 2020 to study Eswaran’s published solution to the Riemann Hypothesis. The committee included academics from multiple institutions and reported findings that characterized Eswaran’s analysis as detailed and clearly argued.
