Kumar Gaurav was born Manoj Tuli on 11 July 1960 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in a family connected to the film industry; his father was the well-known actor Rajendra Kumar and his mother is Shukla Kumar. Gaurav attended Bishop Cotton School in Shimla and completed his formal education at the high school level. He is Indian by nationality and his family follows Hinduism. His sun sign is Cancer.

Career

Gaurav made a striking film debut in 1981 with the romantic drama Love Story, a film that brought him widespread recognition. The early phase of his career featured several roles that established him as one of the popular young actors of that period. Over the mid-1980s his films failed to match the success of his debut, and by the late 1980s his on-screen presence had declined.

In 1993 his father Rajendra Kumar mounted a project titled Phool that cast Gaurav opposite Madhuri Dixit, but the film did not revive his film fortunes.
