Early life and background

Kunal Kumar was born on 6 December 1978 in Faridabad, Haryana, India. Raised in the same city, he attended Apeejay School, Faridabad. His academic training includes studies in neurobics and neuro-linguistic programming; he holds a bachelor’s degree in Neurobics (Human Mind) and a master’s degree in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Psychology. Kumar has also pursued specialized training outside India, including PEM techniques and acting at the PEM Institute in Germany and instruction at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York.

Career

Kunal Kumar began his on-screen career in television, making his early appearance in the serial Hip Hip Hurray in 1999. He became widely known for his comic turn as Balu Kumar in the silent sitcom Gutur Gu, which aired from 2010 to 2012. Beyond sitcom work, Kumar has been associated with several well-known Indian comedy formats and shows such as The Great Indian Comedy Show, Comedy Circus and Laughter Ke Phatke.

Alongside television, Kumar has acted in Hindi films beginning with a role in Saathiya (2002). His film credits include appearances in Main Hoon Naa (2004), Namastey London (2007) and Dasvidaniya (2008), among others. He has also worked extensively in short films, including Holding Back (2015).
