Kunchacko Boban was born on 2 November 1976 in Alappuzha, Kerala. Raised in a family with deep roots in Malayalam cinema, his grandfather Kunchacko founded Udaya Studios and his father, Boban Kunchacko, worked as a producer, actor and director. He grew up in Alappuzha and completed his B.Com at Sanatana Dharma College in Alappuzha after attending St. Berchmans College in Changanassery.

From a young age Boban took part in sports such as cricket, table tennis, basketball and badminton. He also trained in Bharatanatyam during his teens and received early martial-arts training in karate before fully committing to a film career.

Career

Boban first appeared on screen as a child artist in the 1981 Malayalam film Dhanya. He returned as a lead actor in 1997 with Aniyathipravu, which established him as a romantic lead. Over the following decades he built a varied filmography that includes family dramas, comedies and more intense, critically acclaimed projects.

Some of the notable films in his career are Niram (1999), Nakshathrathaarattu (1998), Prem Poojari (1999), Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001) and Kalyanaraman (2002). After taking a break following his marriage in 2005, he re-emerged in 2008 with an appearance in the film Twenty:20. Later work includes Vettah (2016), Take Off (2017), Virus (2019), Pada (2022) and Nna Thaan Case Kodu (2022).

Beyond acting, Boban has taken on producing and played a role in reviving Udaya Pictures in 2016, the studio originally created by his grandfather. He has also appeared in and judged Malayalam reality television, serving as mentor on Nayika Nayakan (2018), hosting shows such as Mazhavil Entertainment Awards (2019) and E-Classil Njanumund (2021), and judging programs including Funs Upon a Time (2021) and Dancing Stars (2023).
