Early life and background

Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli was born on 9 April 1984 in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. Raised in Chennai, she completed her higher education at the Madras School of Social Work, earning a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Human Resources. During her school years she took up gymnastics and later developed a passion for sports, notably cricket, which she played competitively at the national level.

Career

Lakshmi’s professional path began outside films. After finishing her post-graduation she worked as a human resources professional in the private sector. A move into the theatre world followed when she joined the management wing of the Evam theatre group in Chennai. Immersion in that environment prompted her to study acting further—both in India and abroad—and to perform in stage productions such as Damayanthi.

Her transition to screen acting started when a filmmaker noticed her while she was selling tickets for an Evam production. That encounter led to a supporting role in the Tamil film Mundhinam Paartheney (2010), in which she played the character Prashanthi. From that debut she expanded into television and regional cinema, appearing in the Tamil serial Dharmayutham on Star Vijay and in a range of films across Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam industries.
