Early life and backgroundLalit Parimoo was born on 28 September 1964 in Kashmir. He grew up in a Kashmiri family and completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Batwara, Jammu and Kashmir. For higher education he moved to Delhi and attended Ramjas College, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science.
Parimoo developed an interest in acting early in life. He joined the Shalimar Theatre Group in Delhi and began performing on stage. Theatre became the foundation of his craft: he worked in a variety of plays, including productions for radio, and credits his theatrical training with shaping his approach to performance. He started acting around the age of 18 and began earning from his work by about age 22.
Career
Parimoo’s professional debut came in theatre with the play The Expansion And The Rule. His first television appearance was in Police Files on Doordarshan, and his film debut was in Nirmaan (1987). Over the years he built a career spanning stage, television and cinema.
On television he appeared in serials such as Virat (1997), Jhoome Jiiya Re (2007), Kesariya Balam Aavo Hamare Des (2009) and episodes of the long-running series CID (2002). He reached a broad audience with the 1997 superhero series Shaktimaan, in which he played the memorable character Dr. Jackal.
In films, Parimoo has taken supporting roles in features including Sanshodhan (1996), Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain (1999), Agent Vinod (2012) and Haider (2014). Alongside his screen work he continued to be involved in theatre and theatrical training.
